WHY I AM RUNNING FOR 2ND VICE-PRESIDENT

After a decade of active volunteering with the Ontario Bar Association, half of that time at the forefront of the Board and Council, I am running for Second Vice President.

I am running because I believe that lawyers are indispensable to the health of our democracy and I believe in the OBA.

At a time of profound change, I am committed to ensuring that the OBA remains a strong, united voice for our profession.

Times of Significant Change

Our profession is in a period of transformation—economic uncertainty, new models of practice, the rapid evolution of technology, and civil justice reform. These changes bring challenges, but also tremendous opportunities.

I will work with you to place the OBA at the forefront of equipping our members to adapt and thrive. I will lead the OBA to:

  • build collective supports that empower lawyers to maintain strong, resilient practices through current and future economic challenges.
  • expand access to AI and technology tools that are designed for lawyers—helping us thrive through innovation, harness efficiency, and strengthen our practices.
  • be a leading voice in civil justice reform, ensuring that reforms reflect the realities and needs of our diverse membership.

Lawyers' Role: More Important Than Ever

The work that we do matters—to our clients, to the stability of our institutions, and to the public's trust in justice and the democratic process itself.

Lawyers are a key component of the rule of law and the protectors of judicial independence. Our profession has always stood at the heart of democracy—advocating for justice, holding institutions accountable, and ensuring that rights are respected and upheld.

As your President, I will:

  • build upon our profession's accomplishments in advancing justice, strengthening democracy, and fostering reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
  • preserve lawyers' role as trusted defenders of the rule of law and judicial independence.
  • unite us as a profession by promoting inclusion and resilience, so that every lawyer sees the OBA as their home and their advocate.

A Stronger OBA for All Members

I am proud of what we have already accomplished together at the OBA over the past decade.

I know we can go further.

We can accelerate our momentum toward an ever stronger, more connected, more inclusive association.

This campaign is about more than an election—it's about shaping the future of our profession. Together, we can help each other thrive in times of change, defend our role in democracy, and ensure that the OBA continues to lead with vision, strength, and purpose.

Let's move forward, together—and let's accelerate our OBA MOmentum.

ENDORSEMENTS

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mohsen on the Class Actions Section Executive for years, and I heartily endorse his candidacy for Second Vice President. He is the kind of leader the OBA in particular benefits from: someone with closely held principles and a clear vision, but that can disagree – even strenuously – without being disagreeable. We were often on opposite sides of issues before the OBA, but his approach to collaboration and collegiality made it easy to come to a negotiated resolution. Even where he was compelled to draw lines in the sand, our conversations were unerringly productive and cooperative, and he was able to deal with irreconcilable positions without jeopardizing a mutual respect. Particularly in this new age of threats to judicial independence and the rule of law, I can think of few better qualified candidates than Mohsen, who has thrown himself into the business of the OBA from his first day, and who has never shied away from zealous, respectful advocacy in the face of political headwinds, for the people the profession is intended to serve.

Past Chair, Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA), Ontario Section

As co-counsel on class actions seeking justice for vulnerable Canadians, I've seen firsthand Mohsen Seddigh's unwavering commitment to advancing justice. I'm proud to support Mohsen in his campaign for OBA Second Vice-President. He brings not only insight into the complexities of our legal system but also a clear vision for reforms that reflect the evolving needs of our profession and the communities we represent.

It is my pleasure to express my strong support for Mohsen Seddigh's candidacy for 2nd Vice-President of the Ontario Bar Association. Mohsen is an accomplished lawyer whose integrity, dedication, and exceptional leadership exemplifies the highest standards of our profession. I have had the privilege of working with Mohsen for many years in his role as co-counsel in the First Nations Child and Family Services, Jordan's Principle, and Trout Class Action Settlement. This was a historic legal proceeding brought on behalf of First Nations children who were unnecessarily removed from their families and placed into state care, as well as those who were denied or delayed access to essential services under Jordan's Principle. Mohsen played a central role in ensuring the success of this complex and sensitive $23 billion settlement.

Mohsen is thoughtful, collaborative, and always willing to listen and engage with colleagues in a meaningful way. His leadership style reflects integrity and inclusivity, qualities I believe are vital for this role. Mohsen will bring energy, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose to the OBA executive. I am confident he will serve members with distinction. I strongly endorse his candidacy and encourage my colleagues to support Mohsen Seddigh in this important election.

I strongly support Mohsen as the next OBA second vice president. I have observed Mohsen's career develop from a talented junior lawyer to a serious and highly respected leader of the class action bar. Recently, I joined Sotos as his partner, and have been observing first hand how hard Mohsen works at everything he touches.

Mohsen has always been dedicated to the important work carried out by the OBA. He has fulfilled roles of increasing seniority and responsibility, always putting the best interests of the profession to the forefront. Mohsen is fully committed to the clients he serves to ensure that they receive the best representation possible, and he achieves excellent results. I am confident that he will bring the same dedication and energy to the executive of the OBA. Mohsen is a born leader and he has my full confidence.
